We are in an era of globalization. Acceleration of movement around the world, traveling, careers. It would be thought that by meetings groups of people would lead to greater tolerance and acceptance of various types of cultural difference. However, we see an increase in armed conflict throughout the world. Globalization leads to the threat of homogenization or increased sameness. Try to assert a local culture of difference and resisting the sameness put on them. Resurgence of difference- manifested of asserting a sense of ethnic difference. Propaganda - ads, often on the part of the dominant society. The concept of having monetary success is going global- resulting in economic competition. Competition of economic resources- oil, acquisition of oil, gold, water. Nationalism: pride/patriotism in nation- sense of communitas, oneness, belonging. How people imagine themselves as connected in particular units. Occupying a specific territory or space - borders. United as a political entity - share the same values.
