Convulsions, delirium (occasionally: tends to affect the limbs and the face in particular, chicken pox tends to be mostly on the chest. Human specific: no animal reservoir and only effects humans. Thought to be closely related to monkeypox, gerbilpox, camelpox. All three probably have a common ancestor. Variola major (severe) and variola minor (mild) there is also a third deadly kind. End of incubation period = virus shower (spills over into other cells) Highly contagious: 5 to 10 secondary infections from one infected person. Cfr: proportion of individuals contracting a disease who die from it: initial variola major epidemic = ~20 to 40, compared to the 1918 flu = ~2. 5%
