Document Summary

The type of force that caused an injury. Bone (often head) impacted by a flat or round surface. Clubs, rocks, bats, hard surfaces, car accident, airplane bulkhead, from a fall etc. Fractures above the hat brim line (hbl) are more likely the result of a blow. Fractures at the hbl can easily be caused by falls. Consider the size and shape of the fracture. Angle of the blow will change fracture shape. Injuries caused by greater kinetic energy associated with radiating and concentric fractures. Fracture lines radiate away from the point of impact. Greater number of concentric fractures = increased velocity of impact. Lines from injury 2, stop at those of injury 1. Lines from injury 3 terminate at those from injury 2 and 1. Will also stop at (and follow) suture lines. Allows the sequence of injury events to be determined. Beyond the amount that would result in death.
