ANTHROP 3FA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Deciduous Teeth, Incisor, Human Tooth Development
Document Summary
Appearance and fusion of ossification centers: most useful in late childhood adolescence. Head & lesser trochanter: between ~15. 5 19. 5 years. Greater trochanter: between ~17 19. 5 years. Diaphyseal length: most affected by nutritional differences, used quite early on but has a wide range of variation. Long bone length reflects growth in stature with increased age: fetal stage through adolescence. Look at diaphysis most commonly: we don"t all grow at a uniform rate grow quickly early on then slow down, until we grow quickly again, most accurate when we measure the fast growth early on. Long bone length: very useful for prenatal, natal and early postnatal infants, up to birth linear relationship between age and long bone length, reasonably accurate up to 10 years. < 25 years estimates based on developmental changes: dental formation & eruption, bone growth, epiphyseal fusion. >25 years estimates based on degenerative changes: greater environmental influence (diet, exercise, pathology, lifestyle)
