A rare surviving castle of this period, located in hyogo. Designed to impress and show the power of the leader as well as the stability of the com- manding power. Designed to function as a defensive area as it was built at the bottom of a hill. Stone walls so people could not see in from the bottom. Terumasa was the patron of the building, he was a diaymo. His goal was for this castle to have a similar form to the castle in kyoto. 2 types of gables; normal and cupped gables which have curved edges. Walls are covered in plaster with stones in it to protect. Reinforced concrete has been added to fortify it, fire hydrates and fire alarms, urban develop- ment around the site is restricted. Means crown palace, commissioned to be a mausoleum for mumtaz mahal. A symbol of the leaders strength and his dynasty and also love and mourning.
