Colour and shape adds to the variety. As well as the movement of the bodies. Unifies it, within it variety that invites you to see every part of the image. Colour of the block, using only black and the white background. Very obvious, however it consists a serious series of decisions the artist has made. Colours are thematic in the painting and the painting above the fireplace. Brings the eye towards the foreground and then to the background. Near or exact matching to left and right sides of a 2d or a 2d composition. Useful in architectire bc it is easier to comprehend than asymmetry. Windows, design on top of the bottom row. Breaking the symmetry; still managing to achieve balance. Warm colours balance out the glow in the sky. Cool colours; bright red that balances it out. Allows you to avoid fixating on a certain point in the painting and adds variation to the painting.
