Minoan culture- 2000-1400 bce- fi(cid:396)st potte(cid:396)(cid:455) (cid:373)ade o(cid:374) potte(cid:396)"s (cid:449)heel: kamares ware invention of true fresco: painting on wet plaster. Mycenaean culture: 1600-1100 bce- cyclopean masonry the megaron- predecessor of the greek temple. Study guidelines on a2l- key concepts emphasized in lecture/tutorial (see above) Seated harp player- proportions are not accurate (arms and hands are larger- emphasis on harp playing), although the rest is fairly realistic/naturalistic. Natural rock in cyclades islands + hellas (greek mainland)- marble (why figurines are made of marble there) Minoan culture developed on island of crete + a few other nearby islands. Stone (marble) was what was on hand- not clay. Cycladic figurines- local marble w traces of paint- 2600-2400 bce. Mostly female, purpose unsure- occur in living quarters and tombs. Some detail carved w/ paint (red paint for sure- traces found) Very stylized- naturalism was not the goal (intention is important aspect in art creation)
