• Portable Work of art: it can be moved around as necessary
• Commissioned for the All-Saints Church in Florence where important events and rituals took
place – made for the high altar (he knew it was being made for a very important location)
• It now sits at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence therefore no longer in situ
• Altarpiece: A Christian devotional image made specifically for the context of a religious altar
space
• Hieratic: he used differing scales for figures, most important figures much larger then the other
figures of less important
• Foreground: part of the scee that’s losest too us
