The mischievous crow and the good he did - david unaipon. Not just an origins story or cosmogony. Not an alternate universe, it exists here and everywhere, penetrating and informing everyday life. We recognize that we are on indigenous territory. In western society, our stories are portable. We have to be given permission to tell others" stories. Message stick - a form of fake id. Paranoia about friendly pelicans going off to plot against him when he wakes up from his long sleep alone. Has to punish the pelicans because he slept a good sleep and something must therefore be very wrong. His own cleverness and angst with the world drives the story. Contingency (never knowing what the results of your actions will be in a complex world) Constant struggle to create mischief puts him at odds with the natural order, but the story manages to bring the natural order back around.
