Sage philosophy - h. odera oruka and the analects - confucius. One of the qualities of sage wisdom is that wisdom is in the person, not in books or doctrines. Books can"t be wise - they can have amazing content and knowledge, but not wisdom. The quality of wisdom is only embodied in a person. All sages experience a degree of neglect. Lived during a very fractious period in chinese history - all states were at odds with each other at all times. Originally: kong qiu (kong fuzi, fuzi = teacher ). The son of a insigni cant of cial, aspired to public service. Public service in an era that was a tribal process was not an easy thing to do - no public service exam, couldn"t sign up and join, authority was constantly shifting between leaders and kingdoms. Making one"s life in public service during this period was dif cult. Went around to different areas offering his advice.
