Document Summary
Review lecture - theme 3 - modules 3 & 4. Hydrogen bonds form between the different bases and amino acid side groups. Leucine zipper (alpha helix rich) - a lot of leucine. *in the enhancer area, more transcription factors bind. *in contrast to prokaryotes, everything is close by in eukaryotes. Embryonic stem cell - can differentiate into many specialized cells. Different genes are off / on in muscle cells, tissue cells etc. The lack a nucleus - specialize to become red blood cells and then nucleus is removed. They don"t last very long however (about 100 days) Create a tag complementary to the mrna to look for it. Cancer occurs when some switches are on or off transcription wise. Identify which genes are on or off through microarray analysis. Find mrna and usually have to convert it into complementary dna. Label with different colours for each probe in the dish.
