Fossil any trace of an organism that lived in the past. Sedimentary rock forms from the gradual deposition of sand, mud and or other inorganic materials. Transitional form a fossil species with traits that are intermediate between those of older and younger species. Vestigial traits reduced or incompletely developed structures that have no function/reduced function but are clearly similar to functioning organs or structures in other or traits that are not in function. Homology a similarity that exists as a consequence of shared ancestry (common descent) Developmental homologies similar in traits during embryological development , gills and pouches. Genetic homologies similarity in dna sequences of genes from different species, human eyes and drosphila. Analagous traits similarities in structure that are coincidental/a consequence of convergent evolutional rather than ancestry. Occurs when natural selection favours similar solution to the problems posed by a similar way of making a living. Phylogentic tree a branching diagram that describes the relationship among species.
