BIOLOGY 2A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Bind, Enzyme, Thermoregulation
Document Summary
21: many sensory receptors, which are important for physiological systems (baroreceptors, chemoreceptors, stretch receptors) Other receptors: chemical receptors = chemoreceptors (taste smell chemicals, levels of gasses on our blood. Types depend on mode of stimulus they detect. Ie rods and cones in eye detecting light. Important for types of physiologies on a systems level. Feedback sent to the nervous system controls our heart and blood vessels. Chemoreceptors - changes in ventilation to regulate levels of gasses in our blood. 22: some receptors are actually neurons themselves - ending of neurons can sense and initiate an action potential, some are sensory cells that synapse with an afferent neuron. Sensory units - sensing a stimulus and sending the info to the cns comprised of an afferent neuron. Ie neuron with sensory receptors on the ends of the neuron - this one neuron is a sensory unit for that type of stimulus.
