Document Summary
Chen, g. , ye, c. , huang, j. et al. (2001). Cloning of the papaya ringspot virus (prsv) replicase gene and generation of prsv-resistant papayas through the introduction of the prsv replicase gene. The article studied the impact of replicase-mediated resistance for papaya ringspot virus (prsv) within papaya. Prsv cause infection within papaya and the study evaluated the use of viral genes to confer virus resistance in transgenic plants. The main conclusion found from the paper was that transgenic plants with the replicase (rp) gene were able to confer resistance for prsv. The rp gene was inserted into a plant expression vector and transformed into agrobacterium tumefaciens and then inserted into papaya. They performed prsv inoculation tests and discovered resistance in transgenic plants. Various methods were used within this study to produce the rp gene within papaya. They extracted and cloned the rp gene using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.
