Dendritic cell (in tissues: goo antigen presenters. Neutrophil (blood into tissues: explode or engulf when they sense something"s wrong. Engulfs particle to determine what it is: shape/size, composition, endogenous, exogenous. Inflammatory: type of inflammatory responses to initiate. Makes it easy for cells to take them up. Want to make sure theres no opsonic phagocytosis: fc receptor, complement receptor and others. If you want it to be able to eat things, you want 1-3 microns in size: if macrophage eats too much, it becomes immobilized and sends out inflammatory signals. If macrophage eats cells that have sharp membranes, it can puncture the macrophage: when you breathe in dust, macrophages eat it and release it: mucosilary clearance - lungs clear the particulate matter and put it in the feces.
