Iliad 7,9,12 death & burial; embassy to achilles. The battle goes back and forth, mostly evenly. Exchange of token gifts (ajax later commits suicide with sword that hector gave him) Between in battle for 9 years and only are now building a wall. Paris refuses; greeks reject offer to return objects without helen. Importance of burial, for religious reasons and social reasons. Reminder that men are dying in large quantities. Important for men to know that their bodies with be respected after death. Concerned that the walls the greeks build will be more famous than the walls of troy. Poseidon becomes petty about the the trojan wall because he helped build it. Poseidon is allowed to knock down the greek wall after they have built it ( zeus tells him this) Everyone should fear zeus but everyone goes to him for petty reasons. Allowed to do this because they are in a sanctified space where free speech is open.
