16 views3 pages

Document Summary

Brutality towards melanthius and the 12 slave girls (margaret atwood"s penelopiad) Telemachus and the false sense of order. Eurycleia wakes penelope to tell of husband"s return. Does not believe eurycleia so she becomes mad/upset. She has given up on his return. Delayed again because she wants details of the slaughter of the suitors. Finally there is joy then once again becomes sad because she doesn"t believe it. Apparently penelope doesn"t believe but it is possible that she is pretending (clever penelope) She says nothing to her husband, just stares, telemachus is annoyed with his mother. Odysseus expects this, he knows she will test him. Must be alone (or not with son) Telemachus is sent to make a false sense of order. Told to bathe, change clothes and put on music to dance. He knows family members of suitors will be upset. People hear music and assume she has chosen to marry a suitor, and they are awful to her.
