Classics 1m03 the dark age & rise of the polis: jan. 15/18. The economy of greece is in shambles. Turkey fears it will become involved as does israel. Growing fear among rich nations that the waves of displaced migrant may destabilized. Evidence of palace destructions at major sites. Dorian" invasion: volcanoes, earthquakes, drought, crop failure, plague. Systems-collapse political, economical, trade routes, loss of technological expertise. A combination of problems: mediterranean wide collapse. Minoan mycenaean iron age (dark age) archaic classical hellenistic. Iron age, greece enters iron age (1100 -776 bc) earlier than most regions that saw palace-state disruptions. 320 sites occupied in the 13th century. 130 sites occupied in the 12th century. 40 sites occupied in the 10th century. Many people died during initial palace collapses, many families died out, and many also left. Dialectical variations similar to english in the uk. Differences in some local customs and dialect but same hellenic language and heritage.
