The end of the minoans and the rise of the mycenaeans. Last time looked at fresco la parisian - identified portrait as potential aristocratic member of palace itself. With this we can begin to identify the 1% from the 99% - makeup, bright colours, clothing. Bull leaping fresco - one of the best known. This type of fresco was popular, showed minoan sport. Could hypothesize that this could have taken place in the court of minoan palaces. The bull is depicted with 4 hooves off the ground - a dynamic position. Iconographic convention of minoan artists - the 4 hooves off the ground indicate movement, dangerous speed. Bull is elongated to show powerful neck and shoulders - departure from naturalism. Also done to draw attention to central figure grabbing bull - acrobat. The person"s head is way too far back - again departure from naturalism, person has successfully maneuver over the bull and is preparing to dismount.
