There is a sense of accomplishment when you get out of samsara, become enlightened, awaken. Cannot be carried until digitized (huge)-> a library of knowledge. Rules the buddha left behind: the vinayapitaka, the s trapitaka, the adhidharmapitaka. Vinaya records the rule, and explains why how and where it was made up. It is a record of bad behaviours by monks. There are better things to be reading to get you out of samsara (which all laypeople are in and trying to get out) Buddhist legal code for monastics (not for laypeople- not monks and live the life, they take the tri refuge) Rules aren"t arbitrary as they appeared in certain circumstances.
