This was seen as strengthening the owners of capital since they controlled the knowledge and skills needed to operate the factory, run the machines, and employ the workforce. Technological instrumentalism: states that technology has no ends of its own and exists only to accomplish human ends, completely under the control of humanity and human history is shaped by humans, not technology. People make decisions about what technology they will use and how they will use it. Technological determinism: technology takes on an active life of its own" and is seen to be a driver of social phenomena, rather than implicated itself in social relations. Technology is not a collection of neutral instruments but a structure of disclosure that determines how humans are related to things and to one another. Substantivizes view: the modern condition as reflective of the essence of modern technology its rationality, its efficiency, its priority on control and calculability.
