Us fcc: voted to roll back on 14 december 2017: under obama, there was a move to net neutrality for the internet. Net neutrality: internet service providers are like utilities: must provide equal access to content/services, imagine if you"re bell, you want people to use cravetv make your internet slower when a customer tries to go into netflix. Us telecommunications act (1996): 2 classes: information services. If bell is classified as this, they can give better access to cravetv rather than netflix: you can make more money if you classify as this service, common carriers. If they are a utility, bell has to provide equally fast access to netflix as cravetv: they can"t be jerky and slow down your access to other websites. Canada: isp are utilities/common carriers: not to say there aren"t challenges, but we don"t have to worry about those two.
