Changes in music industry: piracy comes out in 90s, online music isnt making money from sales anymore, tours take over albums become promo. Bey takes over music and political landscape: main industry performing. Solange seat at the table (2016) Albums arent money makers but where black artists put creativity. Engage: need to know ur place as white woman, educate self on black feminists and hip hop feminism. Listen: understand others pov and utilize it. Scantily clad, hyper-sexualized, passive, submissive, male gaze. What representations are critiqued: levels of rep of characters and what inequalities lie beneath, black face minstrelsy - connected to white actors, after end of slavery put them in blackface. What social inequalities are critiqued: white man has money passing money onto black actors.
