We learn about the writer from that piece (culture, politics, interests) Example: the job search: five candidates, equally qualified, cover letter with strong voice can give you the edge! Academia: technical writing, often lacks powerful authorial voice. This article will examine the origin of the study of writing. Where possible, switch from passive to active voice. The habitual use of the active voice makes for forcible writing. This is true not only in narrative but also in writing of any kind . The boy was bit by the dog. (7 words) | the dog bit the boy. (5 words) (one way to reduce length in the editing process) The active voice makes sentences more direct and concise.
