Literary Realism is the idea that literature should record life as it more or less as it
actually lived … plot should be believable. Characters should be average people, not
necessarily heroes, or kings or queens
Characters should speak the way in which human beings speak … as opposed to
grandiose poetic speeches.
Henry James, brother of William, finds the way we see life is subjective … we see the
world as we want to see it. Our perception of the world is unclear then.
