Emily DickinsonLived in Amherst MassachusettsEmily Dickinsons poems require much translation Written in a broad loopy scrawl All the words are broken up Dashes might be thought pauses because in manuscript form dashed words do not seem to have the same isolation So perhaps her pen was just resting on the page so the dashes were perhaps just the pen resting on the pageHymnic Quatrain verse form typical of Emily DickinsonDickinson thought Whitman disgraceful Whitman of course had no sense of Dickinson as she was unpublished Dickinsons father determined a lot of her reading etc Dickinsons mother was around but she just only ever wrote about her father However she didnt write as if her household were oppressive Whitmans doublevision the outwardsinwards and the blending of both Doors in both Dickinson and WhitmanIm nobody Who are youAre you nobody too Naming yourself as nobody taking on an identity as such After she erases herself as an individual she makes a connection
