Think about stories that relate to each other and how. The yellow wallpaper and the story of an hour. A woman who wants freedom from a situation. Thinking happens in a bedroom privately and social happens downstairs. Patriarchal society (man is free to come and go and the woman is not) They are ill and are oppressed and because they are ill they are more oppressed. Well- identity can vary and is free to become whatever. There are people around, but they feel isolated. Hour- thinks she has a chance at a new life now that her husband is dead . Yw- has a baby but she cannot see it, her future is hidden from her. Looking at self and becoming it (crisis of identity) Questions that the sequence of events in short stories ask us. Top of house- mind, imagination, daydream, psychological experiences. Middle- social life, common living area, and the world we share.
