The master is about to change his mind-> the conditions of freedom are about to be taken away. The captain interjects and says the master promised-> he defends equiano. Equiano think it will be some magical freedom moment-> and it becomes a clerk stamping freed on his papers. He puts on his blue clothes and goes out to celebrate. He realizes later that his freedom was superficial cared his master might change his mind. Equiano has saved up to 40 pounds and that is his way out of slavery. He has a legal document saying he is free-> but different countries do not follow this.
