In the west, snow occurs at higher elevations: east, lower temp favours snow over rain, amt. Length of snow cover is controlled by winter temp which is lowest closer to the arctic circle. Start date of continuous snow: continuous snow covered starts in august in the arctic archekelego, and at the latest starts in january near lake ontario and lake erie. End date of continuous snow: starts in feb. mostly in the southern praries, at the latest finishes in the arctic archekelego, some location permanently covered in snow. Snowline: snow line is the point where snow and ice cover the ground throughout the year, the combination of altitude and latitude effects the precise placement of the snowline and particular location. Pattern of snow cover: determinants of pattern snow cover Over many hours: snow cover is deeper at lower latitudes for short period of time during the year. Locations at higher altitudes have a shallow cover over many months.
