GEOG 1HA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Population Geography, Total Fertility Rate, Birth Rate
Document Summary
It just decreases the country from which they migrated from and increases the population of the country they immigrate to. Globally, population is understood with reference to two factors: fertility (births) and mortality. P1 = p0 + (b d: p1 = population this year, p0 = population last year, b = births since last year, d = deaths since last year. Fertility: measures: crude birth rate (cbr): cbr = (b/p) x 1000. Just a rough approximation: the number of women in the pop, the number of women of child-bearing age (ie 15-49, general fertility rate (or fecundity) (gfr): Men, children, and old people don"t have children so they don"t count. Need to know births, population, and how many women are in between those ages. More difficult to compare from one country to another: total fertility rate (tfr): Average number of children a woman will have.
