Distance decay: interaction between locations diminishes in intensity and frequency. the decline of an activity or function with increasing distance. Friction of distance: the inhibiting (limiting) effect of distance on interactions. How dif cult it is to cross the space. Accessibility: the ease with which distance can be crossed, having a car makes places more accessible to us or going on a plane (modes of transportation) Spatial diffusion: the process by which a characteristic spreads across space from one location to another. Depends on distance, friction of distance, and densities of population. Overtime the spread of walmart got larger to expand into all of u. s. 1. relocation diffusion: the spread of an idea or characteristic through the physical movement of people from one location to another. Immigration: they bring their language and cultural characteristics with them into the new country. Gossip: hierarchical diffusion: the spread of ideas or characteristics from persons(orlocations) of authority (or power) to other people (or places)
