Human Geographies: City and Economy
Geography is the study of patterns and processes on the earth’s surface. It is derived from the
Greek words: geo (earth) and graphe (to write about).
Physical geography is the study of patterns and processes of the physical world in the physical
environment (geology, ecology)
Human geography is the study of patterns and processes of the human world in the social
environment (economy, politics, behaviour). Human geography explains the significant
meanings attached to the places where these activities take place.
Geography involves description, explanation, and interpretation of human processes and
interactions within a given environment.
