Begin the course with a blank map of canada our goal is to fill in the map in such a way that we have a clear sense of both canada the country and its distinct regions. Mountain belts (or orogonies): are often built from forces called convergent stress and strain, as two tectonic plates squeeze together, rock is piled up in the middle to form mountains. This is how the rocky mountains were made roughly 60 million years ago when many island arcs collided with western canada to form b. C canada contains three principal mountain chains; the rockies to the west, the innutian mountains to the north and the appalachian mountains to the east. Creatures that once roamed canada: woolly mammoths, sabre-toothed cats, glyptodons (where were essentially giant armadillos, many types of dinosaurs during the triassic and jurassic periods (as evident from the popular dinosaur provincial park in alberta)
