Geography the study of patterns and processes on the earth"s surface. Physical the study of of the physical environment (mountains, rocks, rivers, weather and climate, etc. ) Human the study of the human environment (pop, cities and settlement, economic activity, culture, etc. ) Areas of the earth"s surface are relatively homogenous (uniform) with respect to particular characteristics, are referred to as regions. While each region displays a certain degree of uniformity, each region is distinct from its neighbours. United states = one of the largest countries in terms of physical size, economy, power and influence, etc. United states = one nation, 50 comparatively independent states, handful of regions. Each region is an expression of american diversity (culture, economy, history, politics and physical landforms and climate) Thematic perspective: the physical and human geography of the us as a whole.
