Document Summary
Geog 3ec3 debate oil transport by rail. The canadian association of petroleum producers (capp) has been warning since 2012 that the country is running out of capacity to export oil. It"s predicting it needs to make room for 850,000 barrels a day coming on stream between now and 2021, and an additional 700,000 barrels per day between 2021 and 2030. The oil is loaded into the tank cars, and are moved by a diesel train across the rails to the refinery or the trains planned destination. Trains can carry a mass amount of this oil by using of multiple tank cars. Though each rail car holds a lot less oil than a large marine tanker vessel, when multiple are used a lot of oil can be transported.
