Global citizenship deals with these two parallel components: Thinking about how we live and act in response. What should be done - ethics and norms. What can be done- agency and resistance. Who can act and who decides - power and politics. How do we understand ourselves - identity and community. Backlash of losers from globalization, backlash against those who profit from globalization. Speed (of actions; immigration - illegal immigration) Search for a universal definition is futile. Different things for different people in different contexts. Between individuals and communities across the world. Space - time compression , instantaneity , social acceleration , etc. Via shared experiences (world cup, olympic games) Able to be far away (nevada) and control a drone, targeting suspected people found in yemen, pakistan, somalia, etc. 50000 people are trafficked into the us per year. Vast majority of those trafficked are women, most for sex work.
