Trench warfare was a grim reality (wet, cold, waist-deep mud, lice, rats, etc. ) Trench warfare changed the history of quick and victorious wars: christmas truce (dec 25, 1914) A short truce on christmas where the soldiers of opposing sides gathered together in unity for a short time. (only happened in 1914: ypres (april 1915) Region near the atlantic coast of the trench line. Was a salient (a bulge in the line), and therefore britain often attacked here.
