Propaganda (songs ads) made every man believe that it was their dream to fight the hun. Selective service act: (1917), committee on public information (cpi, creel committee) Americans who refused to fight or citizen the entry of usa into the war were treated harshly by the press and the government. 20 million men enlisted in the states, only 5 million ever actually served. 23 yrs of age, mostly white, uneducated. As many of 65000 people rejected service because of moral/religious problems. Eugene v. debs (former presidential runnee* ) sentenced to ten years jail time for one anti-war speech. 400 000 african americans, but they were separated from white soldiers. Women helped the war by: working in ammunition factories, nurses and telephone operators. War-time is a breaking of the generic spheres. Harlem hellfighters first to break past the rhine river, and won many awards.
