What you do and your social status are closely intertwined. Henry mayhew"s london labour and the london poor (1851) coal porters, coal whippers, costermongers, crossing sweepers, dustmen, mudlarks, orange/match girls, ratcatchers, sweeps. Clothing was passed to servants, who either wore or sold. Fat drippings collected from roasted animals was used as a butter substitute for the poor. Dust from households was used in making bricks. Sut from chimneys was used as an insect killer. Dog poop (or pure), was sold to taniards who make leather coats. What was the political impact of industrialization, population growth etc : Revolt and reform in early 19th c. Split of tory interest over catholic emancipation (1829) and the repeal of the tests and corporations acts (1828) Parliamentary reform bill proposed in 1830 by whig prime minister, earl grey. Measure pushed through commons by lord john russell.
