Manifest destiny: a common held belief in 19th century america that they were destined by. God to expand their land westward, coast to coast. The colonists which came into america wanted the land which would lead to an inevitable war against the indigenous people. 1622-1624 (indigenous people killed 300 british settlers, who hit back and killed hundreds of indians) John smith: the massacre of 1622 is good for the plantation because now we have a just cause to destroy them possible. There was a lot of violence during this early period of settlement and red conspiracy was high among the settlers. This continued all the way to the war of 1812. Not all relationships were based on violence and war. One of the reasons why the colonists rebelled against the british empire was because they (cid:449)a(cid:374)ted the la(cid:374)d the i(cid:374)dige(cid:374)ous people possessed.
