Air power in the interwar period y the air plane is a 20th century technology y when the first world war broke out in 1914, the airplane was in its infancy. It is a new technology: relatively few people knew how to fly, there is no passenger airline y 1911 war between italy and the ottoman empire. Italian pilot dropped four bombs by hand: this is the first instance of air power in combat y the basic approaches to air power was laid out in the time of the world wars. It is still very much the same today y. 1914-500 y all of the powers combined had a total of 500 planes at their disposal y people understood that the airplane could do certain things (1) useful in reconnaissance seeing what the enemy was doing. you could fly over the enemies lines and see what they were up to.
