The power in moscow was a collection of the the princes by defeating competing princes, and it was an alliance of the boyars, muscovite princes and the church. Obrok - payments for debts to the nobles through money or commodities. Peasants could just leave (russia is large) so lords had to make it reasonable: the process of enserfment was binding them to the land and forbidding them to move. They were allowed to move only on 2 weeks of the year around st. george"s day (nov 26) and they had to have all their debts paid and pay a heavy exit fee. It was a terrible time to move, so it was very dif cult so there was a lot of pressure on them to stay. happened around 1497. They also had to give notice of leaving, liable for taxes they owned, the people you would register to for leaving became scarce around st. george"s day.
