Trudeau"s 1968 campaign: june 1968, liberals win first majority government since 1953. Trudeau remains in power until 1984, with brief 6-month hiatus in 1979. 1972 (minority), 1974, 1980: trudeau moves to put in place a just society, reform the constitution, and to advance a new foreign policy, also promises to keep quebec within cana. Just society: trudeau"s idea of a just society was based on individual freedom and equality before law no special status for anyone. The state has no place in the bedroom. Eliminate indian act and department of indian affairs. Find a third option in foreign affairs. Language rights and multiculturalism, charter of rights and constitutional reform. Adopt the metric system, reduce defence spending. Langage legislation: 1969 official languages act makes canada a bilingual country.
