Through touch: burn patients indicated lower pain and anxiety levels and had significantly elevated salivary iga (increased hormonal immunological functioning) and lowered systolic blood pressure (increased relaxation) when touched by family or friends while they were healing. How it works is not known, but it appears to trigger or enhance physiological healing processes in the recipient of this form of attentive care. Touch and cancer patients gaisson and bouchard. Therapeutic touch treatments increase sensation of well-being in persons with terminal cancer. In a state of health, the energy flows with freedom. In illness, the energy field is blocked and depleted and manifested by imbalance patterns in the patients energy flow.
