Document Summary
Study of emotions and their role in our health. Emotions bridge mind and body, nature and culture, biology and sociology. Feeling and emotion are lodged in biological make up. Those living at different places of the social hierarchy are differentially empowered =disempowered feel more hopelessness, depression, insecurity lack of coherence and control. Structural position = major constraints for women = lack of personal control= married women less healthy than single women. Society remains structured to the disadvantage of women = will remain so until equality achieved and women have personal control over their lives both at home and in the public sector. Depending on one"s race chances of good health vary. Being a member of an ethnic minority is highly correlated with being in poor health i. e. aboriginals. Aboriginals have as their leading cause of death = respiratory ailments, infectious and parasitic disease all indicators of inadequate housing, sanitary conditions and access to medical facilities.
