People think of government" when thinking of politics, but politics doesn"t only happen in relation to government. Health and illness are not merely biological states they are also struggles of politics. Some people have more of it than others: people with more power have more opportunity to access health care. Inequalities determined by: income, class, racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism,) Narrow view of health: think of how we are doing to be healthy, need to be broader. Does the state have the right to control other peoples health: ex. Parents in alberta treated their baby naturally rather than through a doctor and kid died no control: ex. Mcmaster hospital: 2 kids had cancer, parents wanted to treat through spiritual healing: ex. Age restrictions on drinking and smoking: ex. Canada promotes consumption of grains because we grow a lot of grains.
