Country of origin, birth country of senior"s parents/grandparents, citizenship, religion, senior can chose his/her ethnic group identity. Ambiguity as many with mixed and unique combination of identities and biographies. Minority groups in canada are those ethnocultural groups that have not originated in norther or western european countries. Visible minorities : non-european origin and/or not white in skin tone. 9% of seniors in canada reported themselves as members of a visible minority group in 2006 census projected to double by 2031 (majority lived in toronto and vancouver) 94% of visible minority seniors born outside canada. Culture : shared language, beliefs, values, customs, and practices. Future senior group will show more diversity in region of origin, language, and religion. More people are identifying themselves as canadian rather than their ethnic backgrounds. Societies tend to privilege some ethnicities and disadvantage others. Ethno-cultural groups in canada have different values; ex. family-oriented/individualistic. Cultural values and ethnicity lead to diverse experiences.
