Can"t get out of bed, don"t want to see anyone. Fetish for mentally ill art , although not everyone with bipolar disorder achieve great things. Compare treatment of people with schizophrenia vs bipolar disorder vs cancer. Treatment before anti-psychotics, a person with schizophrenia (1800-1950) would probably spend large portion of life in an asylum. Treatments attempted are rarely effective insulin coma therapy; days/weeks and then revived. Malaria fever treatment; giving malaria, force a fever, combat psychosis. 1953/1954: chlorpromazine revolutionizes care for positive symptoms, but with side effects: tardive dyskinesia.
