Maybe its not on the client or patients side, but the practitioner and the cause of the differences. Theorists have debated the extent to which psychiatry can truly be considered cross- cultural and universal. Some assume cross-cultural portability of psychiatric theory and practice. Others devoted to advancing psychiatric anthropology as a scholarly discipline. Mental illness in their view is deviant to a set of values that may or may not be from the brain. Transcultural psychiatry tries and tackles the points of disagreements. It aims to incorporate cultural understandings of illness into workable clinical practice. Whether you"re a girl in china or south india you would place the same diagnosis, but many state that it is more of a western idea. Critics: remains highly biased toward the euro-american ideas- the americanization of mental illness.
