Primary diagnosis related to depression in dsm. One or more major depressive episodes without mania (5 or more symptoms during a 2 week period) Depressed mood most of the day, self-reported or expressed by others. Diminished ability to think or concentrate, indecisiveness. These symptoms can be connected (similar symptoms to schizophrenia) Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) - chronic, but less severe than mdd. Removed from dsm-5 (if someone has lost someone close to them, you exclude them from the diagnosis because they are grieving)
